Brian Kernighan is a professor of computer science, whose distinguished career at Bell Labs included key roles in the development of Unix and the C programming language, is a leader in explaining computers and computer science to the lay public. His popular undergraduate course, Computers in Our World, introduces humanists and social scientists to computing, providing them with the background and depth to understand digital issues that are of current policy interest.
