Policy might be the most important tool in solving problems in China’s IT industry. For the past 30 years, as a result of the well-known “Reform and Open Policy”, China’s IT industry has increased at a speed which can no longer be maintained. This unsustainability is due in part to the global financial crisis, which has presented many countries with serious economic problems. Is it time for China to announce new policies? Who will make the decisions? How will the new policies be applied? Will the policies work? Mr. Yang will introduce what the Chinese policymakers are thinking and doing in the IT field now.

Bio:

Zhifeng Yang is one of the lead researchers at the Electronic Technology Information Research Institute (ETIRI) in China. ETIRI is a think tank funded by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of the People’s Republic of China. Since 2003, he has led his group consulting for the MIIT. His work in China covered a wide range of topics in IT Policy. As a visiting fellow at CITP, he focuses on the role of US and Chinese IT policy in in economic growth.
