CITP Works in Progress (WiP) Reading Group: Sekajipo Taplah

Date:
Thursday, April 15, 2021
Time:
11:30 am - 12:30 pm

This week’s Work-in-Progress speaker is Sekajipo Taplah, a senior undergraduate who has developed a research-based design for a product that helps keep YouTube users on track with goals they are trying to achieve (i.e., learning some topic). Sekajpio will present his research, product design, and prototype.

Conscious Browsing – Sekajipo Taplah

The goal of the YouTube algorithm is to make the site “sticky”—to recommend videos that keep users at bay so that they can watch more videos. The algorithm has a tendency to show videos that are at times at odds with a user’s goals. Users may not want to watch forever but simply accomplish their original search criteria. This project uncovers how to give users a say in their browsing session and gamify better browsing decision making.

CITP is running a Works in Progress (WiP) Seminar on Thursdays (unless noted otherwise) from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
